Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Voters Engineering covers five types of publications: research article, review essay, research note, survey overview, and book review.

Research article should be about 7000 to 10000 words, presenting quality description, explanation, and exploration of important topics related to the focus of this journal.

Review essay should be between 3000 and 4000 words, discussing interesting and important conceptual or methodological developments in the field of elections studies. We also consider review essay as a forum to introduce a critical perspective on particular issues related to elections.

Research note should be about 2000 words, introducing an ongoing research project which will make significant contributions to the literature on elections studies.

Survey overview is a special column provided for researchers affiliated to the Center of Democracy and Human Rights Studies to publish their latest survey results. This publication can include a wide range of survey themes, but mostly will be related to local and national voter behavior.

Book review should be written no more than 500 words, critically outlining the main argument and explanation of new and elevant books for the advancement of elections studies.

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.
